Harrisburg Capital Area Greenbelt

20 miles of trails loop around the city of Harrisburg, providing easy and convenient walking opportunities. The trail winds through wooded areas, urban offices, residential areas, and scenic parks. One of these scenic parks is Wildwood Park which offers the perfect place to access miles of trails. Take the Wildwood Way Trail and walk through meadows and forests. Continue onto Towpath Trail for a view of the lake and listen to songbirds as you spot turtles basking on logs. 

Boyd Big Tree Preserve

With over 1,000 acres Big Boyd Tree Preserve Conservation Area is the perfect place to spot wildlife on your hike. Start out easy with the pond loop trail, which is just over a mile long. Follow the trail along a spring-fed pond backdropped by Blue Mountain. From this trail, you can take the longer and more challenging path of Janie Trail. Spot amphibians or deer along the ridge top and end at a spectacular view from the top.

Appalachian Trail 

Located about 30 minutes from Harrisburg is access to the famed Appalachian Trail. The hike to Hawk Rock is the best way to experience the views on top of Cove Mountain. If you are willing to hike the steep incline then this trail is worth the drive. The beauty when you reach the top, overlooking the Susquehanna River is unbeatable.
